Amber
Time capsule for the Hancock Center in Chicago, Illinois
The light from the Hancock Center’s viewing deck is enhanced by the rich hues of the stone producing a warm, inviting centerpiece.
A time capsule is not only for capturing the past. The
Hancock site presents the rare opportunity to create an object that will captivate visitors and residents in the years to come.
Behind a veil of stone, Chicago’s keepsakes are teasingly stored in a vessel designed in contrast to the surrounding architecture.
The items are suspended inside on a series of stacked stools. In 50 years time, the stools, together with the capsule, will form an exhibition of Chicago’s past.
Across time, the amber colored vessel becomes the focal point of Chicago’s shared history.
